Helen was known as “Momma Merc” to not only her 10 children, but to their friends and neighbors as well, and “Nona” to her grandchildren. She was an avid supporter of all her children and grandchildren in all their interests, especially when it came to athletics. She was a fixture in the booster clubs all her kids were involved in. Momma Merc was as loud as they can be whether it was cheering from the sidelines or the bleachers. Her children and grandchildren were her heart and soul and rarely missed any of their athletic events. Helen had always encouraged her kids to give it their all in anything they were involved in whether it was her son’s wrestling or her daughters cheerleading. Momma Merc did not hesitate to help friends and/or teammates whether it was food, clothing, or a ride. Her selflessness has left an everlasting effect on all who knew her. This foundation is our way of paying it forward like Momma Merc did for so many.

The purpose of the Helen Mercadante Foundation is to provide scholarships for financial assistance to student-athletes in the Wyoming Valley pursuing a college degree in an accredited college/university program with a degree of their choosing.
